museum in progress presents the installation WEST WIND by Jonathan Monk on the Stubenbrücke as the 37th contribution to raising flags.

“WEST WIND – When invited to propose a design or designs for the raising flags project, I tried to come up with an idea that worked within the given context. Vienna’s Stubenbrücke, Franz West’s missing sculptures, the Austrian flag, and a certain amount of confusion all seemed like the ideal starting point. National flags are so horribly loaded – hopefully I’ve added some Westian lightness to the classic rectangular divide: hard-edged abstraction with a touch of pink.” (Jonathan Monk)

raising flags is a long-term project by museum in progress, curated by Alois Herrmann and Kaspar Mühlemann Hartl, which has been realised at various locations, in virtual exhibition spaces online and in the media spaces of newspapers and magazines since 2023. Jonathan Monk’s project at Stubenbrücke coincides with a solo exhibition by the artist at Belvedere 21.
